Our facility in Mississauga, Ontario has key positions in Sales, Marketing, Research & Development, Engineering, Manufacturing, Customer Support and other disciplines. Operating since 1984, this site specializes in the design, development, manufacturing and marketing of a broad portfolio of innovative LED and Lamp technology. The Toronto facility serves a variety of markets such as electronics, optoelectronics, digital printing, general assembly, coatings, and medical device manufacturing, as well as endoscopy, bioscience research, microscopy and instrumentation.

We are presently seeking a Commodity Buyer who will be responsible for managing the strategic sourcing activities of assigned commodities. They will take charge of negotiating short and long term contracts for pricing, schedule flexibility and favorable liability terms that will secure favorable terms in relation to the procurement of high technology or life sciences custom engineered products. They will liaise with Engineering and Operations to develop strategies that ensure a robust, competitively priced supply chain with the best supply partners at a competitive cost. This position has responsibilities for ensuring alignment with corporate sourcing strategies, projects, and initiatives for the supply chain. The person should have a good understanding of technology trends, market forces, cost trends and supplier technology road maps.

Main Responsibilities:

  • Assures the procurement and inventory management of high technology or life sciences products in accordance with supply chain optimization and management objectives.
  • Establishes and manages supplier relationships including negotiating contracts and prices, monitoring supplier performance, selecting/analyzing the supply base.
  • Develops and executes the commodity plans in order to reduce risk in the supply chain.
  • May manage contract manufacturer (CM) or original design manufacturer (ODM) relationships to ensure inventory optimization.
  • Responsible for contributing to or leading process improvement efforts, such as resourcing, cost reduction and/or quality. 
  • Reduces broad concepts, business strategies into structured projects.
  • Solves complex, high impact procurement process/ program design/ development problems.
  • Reviews RFQ packages and spreadsheet analysis to make recommendations for improvement.
  • Identifies potential suppliers and makes recommendations on supplier selection and quality compliance.
  • Performs supplier negotiations and determines most competitive total cost solutions using creativity and latitude.
  • Executes plans to meet customer commitment to deliver 100% quality parts, on time, with continuous emphasis on cost containment.
  • Drives projects for sourcing ensuring objectives are met and communication channels are effective.
  • Other duties as assigned.


  • 7+ years’ experience in procurement or supply chain management, preferably in life sciences and high technology manufacturing, or related field.
  • Post-secondary education in in business, engineering, or related discipline.
  • Certified Supply Chain Professional is preferred.
  • Good working knowledge of Microsoft Office products.
  • Experience working with ERPs, preferably QAD.
  • Certification in production and inventory management is preferred.
  • Certified quality engineer, Six Sigma Black Belt, and/or Six Sigma Green Belt is preferred.
  • Excellent English verbal and written skills for report writing, documentation, etc.
  • Ability to work with a diverse workforce in a team environment.
  • Experience working in an ISO9001, 14001, 13485 certified, and/or FDA QSR compliant environment is an asset.
