Kepri Upper Air UVC Disinfection System

Excelitas draws on extensive design and fabrication expertise in illumination, optronics and detection to offer the KepriTM Upper Air UVC Disinfection System, an innovative, compact and robust germicidal UVC disinfection system with integrated sensors for increased safety and control. The Kepri Germicidal Upper Air product utilizes UVC LED technology to inactivate harmful pathogens (e.g. SARS-CoV-2) safely and effectively. Kepri is a critical product to help prevent the spread of airborne viral diseases in a variety of indoor environments. 

 

When pathogens are exposed to UVC wavelengths, the DNA/RNA is damaged limiting the pathogen’s ability to replicate, effectively inactivating them.  Germicidal UVC is effective against all pathogens, including bacteria, mold, and viruses (e.g. SARS-CoV-2).

Excelitas’ Kepri Upper Air UVC Disinfection System offers users the flexibility to select when the device is to emit UVC energy, whether it be:

  • Continuous
  • When people are detected in the room
  • When people are not detected in the roomKepri Upper Air UVC Disinfection System

As a safety feature, the Kepri system utilizes presence-sensing technology to detect if someone enters the UVC emission area. Once presence is detected, this Upper Air UVC disinfection system immediately stops emitting UVC energy until that person is no longer detected in the UVC emission area. For simplified installation, Kepri offers an adjustable mounting bracket that allows the user to set the mounting angle to accommodate sloped walls. The system also includes an integrated tilt sensor that prevents UVC from being emitted if the unit falls below zero degrees on the horizon.

Effective germicidal wavelength range

Effective germicidal wavelength ranges from 200 nm to 280 nm. The peak germicidal wavelength where DNA is most susceptible to UVC energy occurs between 260 to 265 nm. Excelitas LED technology is very close to this peak at 270 nm as seen in the graph below. Excelitas Pulsed Xenon has a much wider UVC range which covers the full UVC spectrum. Excelitas Excimer technology in development is focused at 222 nm and is considered safer since it does not penetrate the outer dead layer of the skin or the eye tear layer.
