Excelitas Technologies Introduces Newest Low Light Level Detection Offering at Photonics West 2011

Latest Low-Light Analog Module Allows for Measuring Longer Distances with Higher Accuracy in LIDAR, Range Finding, and Distributed Temperature Sensing Applications

Today at Photonics West 2011, Excelitas Technologies, a global provider of innovative, customized optoelectronic solutions, introduced its newest low-light analog module (LLAM) for the detection of high-speed, low-light analog signals to support LIDAR, range finding, and distributed temperature sensing applications. The LLAM is part of Excelitas’ Low Light Level Detection (L3D) suite, which also includes Avalanche Photodetectors, and Single Photon Counting Modules (SPCM).

The LLAM-1550-R08BH is the latest addition to Excelitas Technologies’ series of high-performance LLAM modules and features an InGaAs Avalanche Photodiode (APD) chip with an 80 µm diameter active area and operates typically at a 200 MHz system bandwidth. The module has a built-in thermoelectric (TE) cooler and preamplifier, all in hermetically-sealed TO-66 flange packaging for additional heat sinking. The use of a TE cooler enables an extremely low noise operation and constant responsivity over the 5°C to 40°C ambient temperature range. The module has its peak sensitivity at 1550 nm, making it ideally suited to the eye safe, long distance range finder and LIDAR applications.

The LLAM-1550-R08BH is fully RoHS-compliant and available commercially off-the-shelf (COTS), allowing for expedited turnaround time, but can also be customized to meet specific bandwidth requirements.

“At Excelitas Technologies, we are proud of our heritage as the original architect and leader behind APD technology,” said Michael Ersoni, senior vice president and general manager of Excelitas Technologies’ global detection business. “The LLAM-1550-R08BH is a direct response to our customers’ quest for lower noise, higher speed, and low-light level detection. Excelitas is focused on bringing OEMs continued innovations across our low-light level detection portfolio including APDs, SPCMs, CPMs and SiPMs.”

Excelitas Technologies will exhibit at booth number 2301 in the south hall of the Moscone Center during Photonics West 2011, which runs from January 22-27th in San Francisco.

In addition to the LLAM-1550-RO8BH and other low-light level detection offerings, Excelitas Technologies will be showcasing a wide range of other products and solutions at Photonics West, including its LED Fiber Optic Illuminators, Cermax® Xenon and photonic lamps and its PAX Family of Precision-aligned Xenon modules.
