Qioptiq Introduces Integrated Closed-Loop Modulation (CLM) for iFLEX-iRIS and iFLEX-Gemini™ Laser Systems

New CLM Feature Delivers Ultra-Stable Performance with Very Low Periodic Noise for Biomedical and Metrology Applications

Qioptiq, an Excelitas Technologies® Company and global technology leader in delivering innovative optical and photonic solutions, introduces its new integrated Closed-Loop Modulation (CLM) feature for the iFLEX-iRIS™ and iFLEX-Gemini™ Laser Systems. The innovative CLM feature provides modulation capabilities without the need for recalibration, combined with ultra-low noise and high power stability performance over the laser lifetime. It is ideally suited for biomedical imaging and metrology applications where repeatable performance and low signal-to-noise ratio are required.

Unlike traditional open-loop laser modulation, iFLEX CLM maintains consistent output during both Continuous-Wave (CW) and modulated operation. The innovative CLM feature enables analog, digital and dual-mode modulation for reliable stability throughout 0.1%–100% power and maximum repeatability for ultra-stable performance.

“Qioptiq’s new integrated closed-loop modulation feature meets a growing market need for an ultra-low noise, modulated laser system that delivers measurement repeatability over time,” said Ian Alcock, Vice President Optics and Lasers at Qioptiq. “By eliminating the need for recalibration, customers can achieve more reliable data comparisons and consistent instrument performance for a wide range of biomedical imaging and metrology applications.”

The iFLEX-iRIS laser series consists of a range of solid-state, high-performance lasers with low amplitude noise. All wavelengths from UV to NIR are offered in the same small size with the same control inputs, with all TEC and smart control electronics inside the laser. Precision control electronics make these lasers ultra-low noise and ideally suited for flow cytometry, confocal microscopy, medical imaging, DNA sequencing, metrology and ophthalmology applications. The new CLM capability delivers excellent power stability during modulation and over the laser lifetime, plus precision adjustment at all output power levels, with no need for laser calibration reset.

iFLEX-Gemini consists of 2x iFLEX-iRIS lasers combined into one laser engine with co-axial combined output beam. It is also offered with SM PM fiber output. The addition of CLM on the diode wavelengths allows dual mode modulation and low periodic noise and micro-USB communication features. iFLEX-Gemini lasers are an ideal replacement option for several gas-ion lasers like Ar-ion laser. Applications include: microscopy, flow cytometry, imaging, metrology, optogenetics, spectroscopy and materials science.

The iFLEX CLM feature for the iFLEX-iRIS and iFLEX-Gemini will be on display at Laser World of Photonics Booth B1 #103, June 26 – 29, 2017 in Munich, Germany.
