humm3 Flashlamp Systems

Excelitas humm3® technology is a complete broadband pulsed system ideally suited for composite heating applications, including Automated Fiber Placement (AFP), Automated Tape Laying (ATL), and Filament Winding. humm3 Enterprise is ideally suited for industrial applications, as it can be mounted on a robot.  Optional configurations allow the heating of multiple fiber tows with independent temperature profiles. humm3 Discovery systems are ideally suited for research and development.

humm3’s broadband output enables a single system to be tailored for a variety of materials without the increased safety concerns associated with a laser.

The high peak powers and instantaneous temperature heating ramp-up and cool-down capabilities allow humm3 to process complex dry fiber and thermoplastic composite parts significantly faster ̶ hundreds of times faster ̶ than traditional infrared heaters.

Additionally, humm3 heads can be configured in tandem to achieve wider heating widths, which greatly improves material deposition rates. In certain configurations, each fiber tow can be heated according to a unique heating profile.

  • Broadband spectral output making it suitable for heating a wide variety of composite materials
  • Heating performance much faster than Infrared heaters, equivalent to laser
  • Precise three parameter control: pulse duration, power and frequency
  • Intelligent digital control system responds to process speeds
  • Can be fully integrated into a dynamic robotic production cell
  • Optional configuration allows independent heating of individual fibre tows
  • Precise dynamic temperature control - Instantaneous heat-up and cool-down response allows processing hundreds of times faster than IR heaters.
  • Standard quartz light guides in 25mm and 50mm. Custom geometries are available upon request.
  • Compact agile head - ideal for complex curvatures, limited space and low payload robots.
  • ‘Plug and Play’ head connectivity allows head modules to be quickly replaced to suit different process requirements and maintenance schedules.
  • Broadband radiation - rapid heating and cooling combined with no residual lamp heat make humm3 ideal for dynamic heating of dry fiber, thermoplastics and a wide variety of composite materials.
  • Enhanced safety - humm3 is a broadband emitter without the need of a class 4 laser enclosure or the associated safety management burden.
  • Filament Winding for Pipes
  • Filament Winding for Pressure Vessels
  • Lightweight pre-formed structures
  • Complex composite structures
  • Aerospace panels and substructures
  • Composite re-enforcement
  • Sintering of Ceramic Matrix Composites (CMCs)
