DRC Series UV Curing Systems for Wire and Cable Applications
The Fusion UV DRC Series of microwave-powered UV curing systems are used to cure inks and coatings on wire, cable, and other linear products. Featuring our C6 and C10 models, this series is especially suited for high-speed inkjet marking of cable jacketing. These UV curing systems incorporate our specialty light shields, creating a highly focused zone of UV energy around the cable or wire.
The Model C6 and C10 light shields attach to the six- or ten-inch microwave-powered UV irradiator (modular lamp) systems to provide a complete high-efficiency UV curing system for coatings or marking on wire or cable. They are ideal for use with high-speed inkjet marking of cable jacketing. The light shield holds a half-elliptical reflector that, together with the irradiator reflector, forms a full ellipse with the UV bulb located at one focus. The target wire or cable enters a square shield extension and passes through the highly focused zone of UV.
Lamps contain mercury. Manage in accordance with local, state or federal disposal laws.
- Electrodeless bulb available in different spectral outputs
- Lamp module, either 6: inch or 10-inch, and choice of power levels
- Power supply matched to lamp module
- Light shield with secondary elliptical reflector housing (C6 for 6: inch or C10 for 10-inch), with secondary reflector and light shield extensions
- Efficiently delivers UV energy around entire circumference of small diameter wire and over a large portion of larger cable surfaces on the lamp side.
- Easy access for service or “wiring up” due to the separation of the light shield at the wire line
- Combines a lamp blower and exhaust blower allowing push-pull air cooling to prevent the flow of volatile materials or odors into the work area
- Wire marking and coating
- Cable jacketing marking and coating
- Fiber optic strength member rods

The DRC Cable Series is specifically designed for efficient inline UV curing of small-diameter linear substrates.
The C6 and C10 light shields with secondary reflector attach to the six- or ten-inch microwave-powered UV irradiator (modular lamp) systems to provide consistent 360° UV exposure around wire and cable. The electrodeless lamp design delivers stable, high-intensity output over extended operating periods. These conditions are ideal for high-throughput environments that demand uniform curing and minimal maintenance interruptions.
The DRC Series uses C6 and C10 light shields attached to the six- or ten-inch microwave-powered UV irradiator (modular lamp) systems to produce high-intensity UV light for curing UV-sensitive coatings and inks on wire, cable, and linear products. Its design allows the substrate to pass straight through the light shield extensions, resulting in even UV exposure during processing. DRC UV curing can also be used on portions of larger cable surfaces on the lamp side.
With no electrodes to degrade, the lamp maintains stable output over long production runs. This setup is engineered for consistent curing performance in fast-moving, inline environments.
The DRC Series was built with integration in mind. Its modular form factor, standardized interfaces, and ease of access allow it to fit into both OEM builds and retrofitted curing stations.
DRC UV curing systems can be combined with Excelitas’ Fusion UV 6-inch or 10-inch microwave- powered UV systems.
Excelitas supports tailored configurations based on application-specific needs. Customization options include light shield extension sizes, specialized UV bulb wavelength outputs to match different chemistries, and mounting hardware for unique line layouts.
Customers with more complex requirements can work directly with Excelitas' engineering team to develop an application-specific solution.
The Fusion UV DRC cable series includes two main model sizes:
- C6-1 / C10-1: 1-inch (25.4 mm) square shield extension, 6 inches (152.4 mm) long — for smaller wire diameters.
- C6-2 / C10-2: 2-inch (50.8 mm) shield extension, 12 inches (304.8 mm) long — for larger cable types
Each model has a secondary elliptical reflector and attaches directly to the microwave UV system lamp housing with no lamp modification. The split-body construction allows access during setup, and the system can operate in any position.
All models are air-cooled and rely on Excelitas' push-pull ventilation to control temperatures while protecting the work area from fumes or escaping vapor.
The DRC Series features a split-body light shield that opens at the wire line. This feature allows operators to access the lamp area quickly for setup, maintenance, or wire threading without needing to remove the full housing. Either side of the enclosure can be permanently mounted.
