Our Qioptiq facility in Hamble, Southampton, United Kingdom specializes in the manufacturing of high-performance, solid-state laser systems and fiber optics for scientific, analytical and metrology applications. This site has key functions including Production, Research and Development, Engineering, Supply Chain, and other disciplines.

We are presently seeking a Continuous Improvement Lead that will support Production, Operations and Engineering by executing and facilitating operational and engineering improvement projects.

Main responsibilities:
Responsible for planning, training, executing and facilitating operational and engineering improvement projects. To create a learning culture; a continuous improvement environment built upon lean and six sigma principles and methodology to drive elimination of waste and KPI improvement (safety, quality, productivity, lead-time, cost).

Your contribution to Advance Manufacturing & Continuous Improvement will involve: 

  • Lead and identify AM/CI projects and opportunities for productivity improvement (e.g. yield, value engineering)
  • Drive CI frameworks across the business including Standard Work and Visual Factory initiatives
  • Attend and represent the site on Corporate AM/CI calls and boards
  • Ensure AM/CI input into customer and approval initiatives (ISO9001 Audits, Quality 1st Program)
  • Manage and report CI savings and project updates and interface with Excelitas global AM/CI technology teams
  • Research, collaborate and share AM/CI Best Practice from across Excelitas to benefit the site
  • Support and develop integration and implementation of Industry 4.0 standardisation across the business
  • Develop and facilitate CI strategy and plan, establishing short and medium term areas of progress and ensuring the standardization of processes
  • Optimise action planning and prioritisation through evaluation of relevance and profitability (ROI, organizational impact, quality impact, etc.)
  • Lead, coordinate and facilitate improvement and problem-solving projects: VSM, Kaizen, 6S, Layouts etc.

The CI Development & Training will require you to: 

  • Deliver comprehensive LSS / CI training program for site
  • Create a learning environment to foster broad and deep cultural shift to CI mindset
  • Facilitate, lead and participate in cross-functional working groups
  • Ensure all CI project owners adopt DMAIC approach and structure projects and actions accordingly
  • Share industry CI good practice and facilitate deployment and standardization within the site
  • Manage CI budget, supporting long term CI strategy and optimizing ROI
  • Submit proposals and improvements for any operating mode of the site

    Skills, Qualifications and Experience: 

    Essential

    • Degree or equivalent in Manufacturing, Mechanical or Engineering or a related discipline
    • Lean Six Sigma Black Belt qualification
    • Relevant experience leading and deploying operational CI strategy within a manufacturing environment
    • Experience in leading and delivering CI events, training, coaching, mentoring (VSM / Kaizen)
    • Ability to motivate teams and lead change at all levels of the organization
    • Effective facilitation, presentation & problem solving skills
    • Tenacious and thorough approach to task completion
    • Experience in using ERP systems (e.g. SAP, ORACLE) and engineering data (cycle times, yields etc)
    • Understanding of ISO 9001:2015 requirements
    • MS Office – PowerPoint, Outlook, Excel, Visio, Project
    • Must abide by our Smoking Policy

    Desirable

    • Experience in optics/laser/instrumentation related industries
    • Experience in Clean Room manufacturing (ISO Class 6 or higher)
    • Competent in use of SolidWorks / AutoCAD
    • Experience deploying lean within administrative and R&D environments
