Job Outline:

To undertake jig and tool design tasks of a moderate level of complexity with some supervision and instruction. Would be expected to spend some time in a training role, both within Jig & Tool Design and generally gaining knowledge about other aspects of the company

Key Responsibilities

The main duties with this position will be to:

  • Design jigs and fixtures of a moderate level of complexity under some supervision from an experienced designer.
  • Provide drawings under some supervision from an experienced designer.
  • Be moderately proficient in the use of mechanical design software tools (e.g. Creo, PDMLink)
  • Be proficient in the use of MRP software (e.g. AX) to facilitate the procurement of tooling and its subsequent control.
  • Become more involved in communications with internal customers and start to make valuable contributions within project teams.
  • Be moderately knowledgeable of our manufacturing processes.
  • Develop good working relationships with other functions within the company.
  • Procure tooling under a low level of supervision.

Personal Specification

  • Eng. Mechanical Engineering based subject or equivalent experience.
  • Experience of tool design and/ or manufacturing processes
  • Good communication skills
  • Confidence in decision making and awareness of the impact of decisions
  • Good team player
  • Ability to work to tight deadlines
  • Experience of using Microsoft Office
  • Experience of engineering drawings

The following knowledge areas are desirable for the role:

  • Knowledge of glass/metal manufacturing processes
  • Experience of CAD
  • Working knowledge of Pro-Engineer
  • Knowledge of defence, aerospace and tool making industries
  • Experience of using PDM Link/Product View and AX
  • Knowledge of Qioptiq products
  • UK Driving licence
